the street

the street

A Poem by Lydia
"

just thinking about my cousin today...i miss you ronny

"

it’s a nameless street
looks very much like others i’ve traveled
flowers bordering it may have names
but i never learned them
                  because you knew them
                          and could recite them easily
a street that has lasted
through named hurricanes
and being pummeled
by anonymous hailstones
a street that tempts me
with imagery waiting to be written
because it is the street
that always brings me back
to the memory of you

dear Lydi... I am reminded of the song
from My Fair Lady, entitled "On the street
where you live". My cousin David and his
sister Linda and I shared our childhood.
Now, they are both laid to rest in the
poetic cornfields where we played
and dreamed of our future families.
Your poem has crossed my heart in
familiar ways. truly... Pat

Lydi...what a special write. I love how a single place, object, word, or color can preserve and evoke memories from a lifetime ago. Cousins add their own unique brand of fun and spice to our lives. This is such a heartfelt and beautiful write for your cousin Ronnie....God bless him always. Wonderful poem, my friend.

I like the photo. Gave life to your words. It is amazing how places can take us to old and missed places. I like the description of the street that survived the hurricanes and left us with good memories. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

We are overwhelmed at times with feelings of melancholy when we think back to the days when someone as dear as this comes back in memory to us, and we are for a few moments, or more whisked back to the "then". It may be a street where we traveled with them on a nameless street, or of other fond times, but they all hold the same memory of endearment!
I am sorry you have lost this person!!

It is funny how a certain place, or an object can remind us so much of a person and bring back such precious memories. I'm sure the street is lovely...as is your poem Lydi. A beautiful tribute to someone very special.
