A Poem by Lydia Shutter

"anastasia" by garmash

when the world is overwhelming

and the horizon is suddenly dark

you are the poem i read

your waterfalls of emotion drench me

i open my mind to a kaleidoscope of color

            an ever-changing palette of hues

like colonizing a new country

words build new meanings

then take up residence in my psyche

each one like a kiss on my cheek

                        then my neck

                                    and beyond

each one thrilling me just a little more

till the world is not so bad after all

and i’m hungry to take a bite out of my day

            you need to know this

you are the poem i read

Thanks so much, Woody.
I like the idea of a person being a poem you can read, a person who is the antidote for all worldly ailments. You have a lot of really eye-popping images in this poem which speak to the depth of love this person provides. My favorite was your fifth line about the kaleidoscope. Beautiful expression of companionship and love.

I love this… a beautiful tribute to poetry for both the reader and writer, I feel all those who love the arts, be it of a written, audio or visual genre look for the same thing.. a connection, inspiration, to share in emotion, open our minds to new ideas or just to simply feel better after a long hard day, for me this poem expressed that beautifully.

I am the poem you write

Thank you Lydia for sharing this poem.

This one is so honest, romantic, and heartfelt. It whispers from one heart to the next in like language.. when two souls are connected on deeper wavelengths the music that is possible is breathtaking... the tender imagery is both affectionate and beautiful.. you feel each breath, each kiss, each word... as the poem that you read is translated through your pen into the hearts of your readers.. keeps us hungry for more as does theirs.. when you find that special someone they can be that calm in the storm, that cooling breeze in the sweltering trenches, that kiss that sets that passion free... the moods that can be expressed, explored, felt in those colorful moments when something you read touches certain spots in our mind, when certain strings are played in our hearts... you know I am such a fan of the way you effortlessly and brilliantly mix different ideas with feelings and possibilities.. taking my mind in several directions and in the end left with tingling emotions that you have played with so skillfully... another stunning piece that I loved.. you are such a joy to read:)

dear Lydi... This poem is beyond beautiful.
It has captured the aura of romance as a
waterfall drenching your emotions into a
lovely rainbow of colors and moods.
All your poems are my favorites, however,
"you are the poem I read" bears a golden lining
of timeless love. truly... Pat

Awwww, my dear Pat, you are such a sweet friend. Thank you so much. Lydi**
First of all Merry christmas Lydi :).. Sorry for not being able to review your poems lately. :( But yeah i am here to read your words and yes i am overwhelmed by reading your poem. Yes it is just the way Donee has said that "Free me then enslave me"... Your line of colonized country reminded me of that. But as always your writing is always worth it... :).. Love and warm wishes in this christmas. *takecare*
