Imbroglio

Imbroglio

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

Artwork by Barbara Rosenzweig

Manipulated

by a torrent of circumstance

the sand of misunderstanding lodged between our toes

creating an imbroglio of massive proportion

Politely

we did the banality backstroke through waves of cliché

still a raft of honest words brought us

to an uncensored shore

Sometimes we can have an
entanglement that is a complicated
disagreement. In order to find a calm
sea to return to shore, we must return
on a raft of originality and politely
make conversation that is both
fascinating and generous. Love the art.
Life is meant to be "calm before the storm".
truly, Pat.

Honesty can hurt at times...but a true friendship will last...

I've missed reading you Lydi. Your use of metaphor is amazing - and the art you chose is precious. You never disappoint.

Being honest and truthful is the only way to progress in a relationship. Otherwise misunderstandings will grow larger than life.
The use of metaphor is lovely and the picture of innocent friendship somehow complements this poem.

A wonderful piece Lydia. "still a raft of honest words brought us, to an uncensored shore" is a wonderful way of saying that only by being honest, can we return to a relationship that we enjoy with ease, not having to be careful with our words. Misunderstanding,as you've said, really can lead to the worst situations for loved ones, and that's why communication and trust is essential.

there is a saying that goes something like: "the truth, in and of itself cannot set you free. But without the truth you can never get free" In this case, in your poem, personal relationships are often "imbroglio" (messy, and complicated). They sometimes seem impossible. And yet, if we are open and honest with each other, see and listen to each other, the whys and the ways we think, that "raft of honesty" is a way to becoming better friends and also better people. That "uncensored shore" is always a good place to be, it is where real friendship and love begins. The sorrow is when we do not know how to get there or we refuse to believe it is possible...

It may not be a "typical" Friday night poem, but it is one hell of a love poem if you ask me!!! Life itself is complicated and messy, but we travel through all the imbroglio and banality none the less and are better for it, if we listen and learn and are not afraid to be honest.

I like this picture you used as well. Isn't it something that kids, our children often understand these things better than us adults. They definitely are not afraid of the truth.

Anyway, I think your poem honestly "nice" Lydi....

Absolutely, children understand that speaking honestly is the way to go. Real friendships do exist... read more
i don't whether it is better to censor or not censor...some words can hurt but truth sets us free to be together ....love is getting through the cliches, and pretentiousness...and just being real...

It's always good to be able to discuss our differences and come to at least a half-way point found on that uncensored shore. I chuckled when I saw the title/topic of your poem as I had recently saved the same word and wanted to write something with it in as it is an interesting word. Now, I have to resort to "wonky" (another word saved).........LOL Yep, there's a poem in that one somewhere.
Nice write as always with lovely artwork!

How apropos for me. Nearly exactly what I just experienced myself. Weird how words can sink us and save us too ...

Every aspect of this poem, accompanied by the careful choice of exquisite art work, is a reflection of a refined vision. One who is still brave enough to partake in a moment of honesty.
Beautiful work, Lydia!
