the fabric of you

the fabric of you

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by stanislav sugintas

like my favorite worn sweater

i pull the warmth of your friendship

over my head each morning

as the sun grows over the horizon

some would say its color clashes

with the ivory skin it snuggles against

but it complements me

caressing me like priceless french silk

the truth is deep inside me

were only silent phrases

till the words were spoken in your voice

simple words perhaps

but your voice transformed them

into an orchestra of beauty

those memorable syllables

can’t be found in any dictionary

save the one that resides within my heart

so, yes, each morning i linger with your friendship

procrastinating over coffee and dreams

entertaining myself with the attraction

reveling in the fabric of you

I like how you made friendship and just an average into a subtle grandeur as it should be.

That's supposed to be average day, lol.
Its a blessing to have a friend in whose company one is so at home, comfortable and on the same spiritual wavelength. The beauty of your poetry here conveys the joy in totality.

When one is graced to experience a friendship as warm and inviting as you describe with your words there is enough silver and golden threads to weave a relationship that lasts forever, endures the darning of tears, finds new buttons to replace ones lost, uses the best, and gentlest of detergents, and of course air dries it after wrapping in a soft cloth for protection.

A beautiful poem with an image that relays the concept that the different strands of color in her hair and garment are there to enable one to visualize just how different the phases of an intimate friendship may be; different but all blending to be those of perfection!

Yes, a friendship as this spins itself right into one's heart of hearts!

French silk. A softness never forgotten. Thank you Lydia for sharing your amazing poetry.

No we don't and you are welcome dear Lydia.
I love the third stanza, "were only silent phrases, till the words were spoken in your voice, simple words perhaps, but your voice transformed them". There were things inside me that I didn't know I wanted others to see until my special friend spoke them aloud, and turned them from simple things, or frightening things to something beautiful. Sharing that with someone is amazing

I think your words here are your own orchestra of beauty Lydi. Felt, respected and ever present in our lives, the heart with just the knowledge of their presence. Beautiful.
