the fabric of you

the fabric of you

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by stanislav sugintas

like my favorite worn sweater

i pull the warmth of your friendship

over my head each morning

as the sun grows over the horizon

some would say its color clashes

with the ivory skin it snuggles against

but it complements me

caressing me like priceless french silk

the truth is deep inside me

were only silent phrases

till the words were spoken in your voice

simple words perhaps

but your voice transformed them

into an orchestra of beauty

those memorable syllables

can’t be found in any dictionary

save the one that resides within my heart

so, yes, each morning i linger with your friendship

procrastinating over coffee and dreams

entertaining myself with the attraction

reveling in the fabric of you

Sitting procrastinating over coffee and dreams, how often through life a couple does that...not realizing how important that time is until one is no more. Valentine

True, Kathie. Thank you for your review. Lydi**
A deeply romantic notion Lydi to feel someone as if dressing in their essence. As always articulated in a lovely verse.

Kelly, it's always special to hear from you. Thank you. Lydi**
love has many unique forms Lydi, there is a subtle pull to this poem, one that can be read as the warm feel of wonderful friendship and closeness we bond with those very close to us... and that closeness can also be the warmth described as the connection between two lovers who share everything in life together...

the metaphor of a close fitting well made sweater serves well to describe and accentuate both... and is not a relationship best when warmed by a deep friendship, a multi-colored sweated that hugs us every time we wear it...

this is a wonderful poem Lydi and woven "nicely"...

when i reached your closing i found that without thinking i was exhaling the biggest of breaths ..and upon feeling that sweater against my own skin ..reflecting on how the lover is also scented on that sweater .. what a dreamy mode your poem creates for me ..i just want to sit here (with you) at that table .. procrastinating away ;) nice one Lydia!
