the longest day

the longest day

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

time....it can change everything

"

the line between forgetting and remembering blurs

on the longest day of the year

never did love history

but today is downright plump with it

the invisible magically becomes visible

and you are here

right here

my feet are stuck in some facsimile of silly putty

i can’t run from you

not even sure I want to anymore

yea, it’s always the same scenario

yet somehow on this longest day

everything is just a bit different

i rewrite the background music

till the crescendo is stronger

and i am too

my feet start to move around obstacles

they find the wonder woman truth

till they catch up with the tomorrow

i’ve always imagined

it’s true

my words finally sing a happy tune

on this longest day of the year

I don't know if I could ever write a poem like that. Seems bittersweet in a way. It is almost like the sun peeked out and down upon you and at that moment the last of the clouds dissipated with a sudden understanding. Like everything was good and in it's place. Finally. Or you could have been suffering from heatstroke. LOL. Anyway, keep plugging away Wonder Woman. CD

I've always had an affinity for the summer solstice, as if it brings some universal magic. Your poem takes off from this idea, showing one scenario of how such markers can bring back a flood of images & remembrances. I love the way the tone seems to be a little ambivalent, with contrasting observations (((HUGS)))

Interesting romatic and personal poem Lydi. A meandering of thoughts and a wistfulness that permiates through. All coming to a conclusion but a positive one, on the longest day.

Ah, but a woman always needs a bit of mystery in her life, right? :) Thanks so much, Al. Lydi**
The summer solstice has induced a pleasing acceptance and 'coming to terms with life ' Lydia, how satisfying and welcome!

dear Lydi... the longest day of the year has me at the Comfort Medical Store where I just bought on sale a helper on wheels to carry my computer and personal bag for poetry stops at Barnes and Noble and the like to hang out and be inspired. The experience seems to fit in with your poem. The years after age sixty are precious in a poetic way and we need a visible helper to carry our stuff and preserve our energy. I feel like your photo... young as Spring... The solstice is a good omen today
and I cherish your poem. truly, Pat

This day, your words, your appreciation allows the spirit to travel that much further perhaps? One should never waste a moment of so precious a gift. Your poem really does sing an anthem of praise on high, Lydi, you make love extend its arms, hold tight a little longer all because.. ..
