we can still dance

we can still dance

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by anna razumovskaya

just beneath the surface of the day

under the rumblings and grumblings of life

there is a crack in the darkness

come, take a peek through my telescope

do you see the spot of light?

there plays our song

if you listen carefully you will hear its sweet notes

and we can still dance to it, you know

if we’d only stop chasing the minutes

that have not yet ticked

stop inventing excuses

the dance floor is waiting

and so are my arms

A very beautiful message is conveyed in this short poem...we must not fret about the times that have yet not ticked, or about the times that are long gone...it is hard to let go of all these inhibitions and be totally care free, but we can always try once in a while...to make each moment count..

Beautiful artwork and amazing use of words.
"stop inventing excuses

and so are my arms"
The above lines are so true. We need laughter and a lot of time to dance. Thank you Lydia for sharing your amazing poetry.

Billy joe Spears take a bow, this entreat is much more eloquent and visually inviting,

"I'll get the blanket from the bedroom
And we'll go walkin' once again
To that spot down by the river
Where our sweet love first began…"

How i've missed your poetry, my friend! This is the perfect poem to come back to. There's that same magic that captured me so many years ago, and still continues to cast it's spell on me. as always, your poetry always has something meaningful. this poem is at the core of everything we ever want to say, life is all about seizing the moment! and yet, it's never too late. so beautiful, Lydi.

i love love love this, Lydi.

to find that special music, that dim lit floor, that wonderful sway of bodies dancing amidst all of this chaos of today.
our song will always find a place in our hearts, and our feet will keep moving.

YES...exactly....we must listen for the music. Thank you so much, Jacob. Lydi**
Every day we dress for the dance... we hear the music and our heart beats... reciting a poem by Keats... Instead of walking, we could be dancing the tango... cheek to cheek along a busy street... time is meant to be spent with passion and abandonment... Embrace the day...truly, Pat
