This Ring

This Ring

A Poem by MNeilsen

Dressed to Kill as you enter the room
Your Raven Hair, ruby lips, eyes of blue
short skirts and high heels once brought him to his knees
Before you walked out his door becoming a memory
A regretful moment you think to change
Thinking you can have him with a promise to take his name
But he gave to me in the spring
The day he gave me this ring

This Ring
Just a simple band of gold
But It means the world to me
Along his promise to love me as we grow old
This ring has a matching band
My promise to love him for all eternity
Remains at home on his left hand

Slowly weaving a path through the crowd
Your eyes speaking your thoughts out loud
He does not notice your approach as his eyes remain on mine
And Only turns at the hello whispered in a sigh
As your arms pull him near
He turns down the invitation whispered in his ear
As he pulls away you finally see
For you his is now only a dream
You frown as the light hits the diamonds
In front of my simple golden band
This ring claiming him as my man
But Hope remains in your eyes
Until he introduces you to his wife

With a shake of your head, a giggle, a sigh
His declaration to me you push aside
Viewing me as merely an ant hill in your way
And with a little effort he will be yours again in days
As if I’m invisible you move closer to his lips
Hoping he will notice the tantalizing sway of your hips
Stay on this path and trouble it will bring
As I give you a much, much closer look at this Ring

I am completely awestruck. This poem...held so much attraction and promise. The ring symbolizes so much and I love how you make the scene. I can picture it now. Wonderful.

Another fantastic poem. I got a kick out of the ending too. It's difficult to write good poetic humor!! Well done my friend.

This is an amazing poem and honestly had me laughing by the end. I also like the idea of writing for stories. Alot of my poems are inspired by my books and it is nice to read something by someone else who does so as well.

I love this especially the end (Im assuming she throws a punch here?) and I like the idea of writing a poem inspired by your book and characters
