The To and Fro

The To and Fro

A Poem by Olivia Danso

I’m not looking for good, I just don’t want the bad.

Perhaps that’s a sad way to be.

Just hoping and praying for that plain sailing.

That ship would sink, knowing me.

Not searching for greatness or the Holy Grail.

Knowing failure occurs when we try.

Not trying to be funny or melancholy.

But I won’t lie,

I wanted that to rhyme.

Actually the cynicism I was definitely going for, the absurdity of life was just a happy accident :-) More akin to my general 'unconscious' view that life is absurd perhaps...

I love this poem, olivia. i'm not sure if it's what you were trying to do, but for me it treads the line between a cynicism that comes from a feeling of disappointment and the absurdity of life! hope that didn't sound too pretentious...!
