Chapter (18) PAPER POPPIES

Chapter (18) PAPER POPPIES

A Chapter by MAD ENGLISHMAN

PAPER POPPIES

Simple paper poppies pinned on coats of red and grey.

In silent footsteps they march in lines to pray

and give thanks.

In their shrinking ranks men with stories still untold

of exploits brave and bold.

Old men with solemn faces, aged and war worn,

Stand tall and proud before the cenotaph

on a cold November morn.

Wreaths of red and green placed,

footsteps paced in remembrance of our brave dead.

A band plays and a bugle calls the last post,

a tribute to the host of those who fought and died.

We who live safe in our land should all stand and say with pride.

We shall remember them.

I'm quite patriotic. It's not always appreciated in our modern politically correct world. Thank you.
