Need(le) and Thread

A Poem by AmeliaGerhardt

I cut
and you sewed,
Gently running
your fingers
along every seam
I had separated.
A delicate tailor
Holding every
God damned stitch
of me together.
When will I learn to
perform such an art?
How will I sew
my heart back together
now that you have
offered your gift
to another?

Amelia, I love the metaphor you used for this context. The end (question) surprised me. Initially, I thought you were commending someone for their strength, perhaps someone you admired and/or loved. Maybe that's still true. It's a sad reality some often grant their most precious gifts to others. It's also true those with gifts also need gifts from others. Your poem left me asking, "what gift does he/she need?" Nice work. I look forward to reading more.

Wonderful use of words and thoughts. You took the reader to perfect use of hands and the skill to make believe, love can be true. A sad ending, it is sad when interlace with true heart. We can lose. Thank you Amelia for sharing the amazing poetry,
Coyote
