I Am Original

I Am Original

A Poem by Magnolia Liberato

By no inheritance have I come by myself,
By no contest have I won my heart.
No binding chains
Of my peers’ opinions
Hold dominion over me,
Because
I am
Original.

There are no Gemini sunsets,
Just as there is no mold
With which to recreate me.
The river of pride coursing through these veins
Will not wash upon other banks,
Because
I am
Original.

The winds of time push and pull my body at will,
But my soul flies above stormy skies.
The sun awaits my journeys,
Awaits the chance to care for my hopes and fears
In a way saved for me alone
Because
I am
Original.

Class poem! The sentiment behind it is great, something I try to reflect in my Daily life. I really like every line, they have power and grace. I always think a poem is good, if I can I imagine reading it out loud, like I'm in some epic film.
