The Spider

The Spider

A Poem by Honey-Bee

The spider fed upon the fly
caught so helplessly
On this early morning in Mid July

He worked hard weaving his web all night
And now it glistened in the early morning sunlight
He wiped his mouth as he ate his breakfast so very polite.

Day after day he caught his food

Very soon he grew fat and lazy

Waiting for prey to get stuck and glued

One day the wind and rains came pouring down
And washed his web away
The spider ended up crawling on the ground

Along came a man and smashed him under his shoe
And that was the end of spider
Most parts of this story are so very true.

Thanks, they'll love the squishy part at the end! :)
A sad end to a noble creature. Well told. Now, one minor thing -- I think you meant pouring, not poring -- unless you wanted to connote something entirely different than rain ...:)

You are welcome spiderly...:).............................
I enjoyed the rhyme in this free verse poem. I was inspired to write a tiny gift poem for you that uses “fly” in four different ways.

Fly

Somewhere near the river Fly,
spiders watched sweet bugs that fly
as they knit webs on the fly
meant to trap a roving fly.

Thanks Aethereal! I am glad you liked it and thanks so much for the nicely written poem!
I really like this wonderful story-poem. It`s written with so nice style, accent to the symbolic meaning of the spider...Spider, net, killing, wind and rain. Spider is an ancient symbol and totem of creativity, but also of the hidden mysterious power and growth, it can also mean death, rebirth, protection, fate, progress. All people construct their net" of life, but some fall down in it, instead of their pray. Such is the case with your spider, as he was greedy and lazy...Yes, it`s a good lesson of life.
My favorite lines:
He worked hard weaving his web all night
And now it glistened in the early morning sunlight
He wiped his mouth as he ate his breakfast so very polite.
