More Jesus than Pharisee

More Jesus than Pharisee

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

I always had a little more Jesus in me than Pharisee;
A little more Buddha than ol’ King Koopa;
A little more back roads than interstate;
A little more yesterday than I do of today;
More Bob Seger than Bob Dylan,
More hero, less villain;
More miss than regret;
More rebel, but never one’s pet.
There’s less of me since I was born,
And far more life than I ever bargained for,
so I be chillin’
And by the time death rolls ‘round,
I’m sure I’ll wish I had only two things:
My missus and my children.

My fault for not having learned an instrument 🎸 to give my lyrics life.
