Hijabs in May

Hijabs in May

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

Black abayas
Are sown
In the tumult
Of autumn heat;
Watered
By winter rains,
They sprout as
Hijabs
In May,
Sporting
Pink burkinis,
Driving yellow
Lamborghinis,
Well-heeled.
