Jesus left Herod’s baby-killing spree
Before the age of three;
He won’t be coming back to the Holy Land
As an adult to overturn Pharisees’ tables,
To meet his disciples, desecrate the temple,
To be the god of Gentiles;
Thou shalt be no Gospel, no return
To heal lepers, reap souls, and raise Lazarus;
He’ll be separated by walls and razor wire,
And if need be, he’ll be drowned in the sea
If he dares to walk on water to shore.
Old Joe and Mary stay behind with Pharoah,
To pick fruit in Old Mexico under the cross-fire of narcos;
History dies, basking in an orange glow.
