Cliques and clichés

Cliques and clichés

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

Humans,
We are either
cliques or cliches;
Even both, I’m afraid,
Yet we claim we are not
The same,
Ignoring DNA chains,
And only fight
to protect our names
As fierce individuals;
We stand before
Our predecessors,
The great-greats,
With debilitated brains,
Living in contravention
To our human stains,
Our would-be
Brothers, sisters
And cousins,
All swallowed up or
Flushed down drains.
So is it a wonder we’re
Also insane,
In addition to stupid?
We eat our own excretions
In the excrement
Of our war between
Love and hate.
