Empty Jack

Empty Jack

A Poem by McEltic
"

To the memory of a distant past

"
~~~
A distant sail on evening's set
no color binding form
an empty flask where you once sat
and kept my shoulder warm
~
Transparent
stripped
reminders gone
no keepsakes marking time
no lost refrain or captive song
depletes infectious rhyme
~
Revoking nights of shameless play
beneath a comber wave
where fervent sky entombing dusk
rent heart to looming grave
~
Conception nests in solitude
o'er seabird casted song
born in mist of crashing swell
adieu ...
bereave prolongs
~
In time perhaps
in your respite
you'll stumble
breaking stride
beneath your step an empty flask
your memory
corked
inside
~
'Empty Jack'
McEltic,
The saying; "gone but not forgotten" is so real within this poem. I can surly understand how a place like coastal setting would be a fitting place to memorialize and ponder and even cry over lost beauty, love and meaning. For relational love never really is forgotten. The cry of the waves and mourning of your words just walk together within this poem. After reading through once and again I just was pulled into it's meloncholy beauty. "A distant sail on evening set" "no color binding form" "an empty flask where once you sat" "and kept my shoulder warm" This first line brought tears to my soul before even the completion of this writing.
Bless you.
This is perfectly crafted with strong rhyme & rhythm, full of original imagery that places the reader right into this oceanside scene, with all the sensory wordplay thru-out. There's a haunting melancholy that swirls around each line in a sad & tantalizing way (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
Need it be any wonder that you're one of the best of the contemporaries? I'm in awe with every poem you post. Well freaking done!
