Downpour

Downpour

A Poem by Michael (Letters and Lifelines)

I watch the glow,
And drift away...

It lightens up,
The darkened sea...

The cries and screams,
All fade away...

A forgotten silence,
Takes over me...

So many times,
I wanted to run,
And leave forever...

Only to return,
And see you here,
When I'm all better...

You know,
It's always with me.
You know,
It never leaves me.
The surge,
Has a strong attraction.
It serves,
As a bad distraction.
Sometimes,
It gets so hard to pretend...

It leaves me screaming in the end.

Watch the embers glow,
In the night-time sky...

They're slowly falling,
On the sea...

Can you see I'm hiding,
Behind my eyes?

Can you tell I'm living,
On my knees?

After forty nights,
When the rain subsides,
And the floods are dried and gone...

I'll run to see,
If our names in ash,
Have stayed there all along...

You know,
It's always with me.
You know,
It never leaves me.
The surge,
Has a strong attraction.
It serves,
As a bad distraction.
Sometimes,
It gets so hard to pretend...

It leaves me screaming in the end.

I like to think,
That I'll be fine,
If you leave me here,
One final time.
Just a desperate wish,
From a tired heart,
For an easy end,
To the hardest start.
I'm on your edge.
Don't make me fall.
I found you once,
And I lost it all.
If love's the ending,
You have in mind,
Then write your story,
At the end of mine.

Fate left you here,
With me tonight,
Saying, take a chance,
You'll be alright.
A playful shove,
And a sneak attack,
Like reaching out,
Just to pull me back.
Am I too far gone?
Could it be too late?
Can you save me now,
With a fast escape?
If love's the ending,
You have in mind,
Then place your hand,
Inside of mine.

Please remind me,
How to be excited.
I lost my way,
Can you help me find it?
A gentle brush,
And a whispered word.
I miss so much,
In the things unheard.
I catch your stare,
And the softest smile,
And I dream this out,
Just for a while.
If love's the ending,
You have in mind,
Then trace your name,
Right next to mine.

If love's the ending,
You have in mind,
Then write your story,
At the end of mine.

If love's the ending,
You have in mind,
Then place your hand,
Inside of mine.

If love's the ending,
You have in mind...

Then trace your name,

Right next to mine.

The above lines can stand alone as a perfect poem.
"If love's the ending,
You have in mind,
Then place your hand,
Inside of mine.
If love's the ending,
You have in mind...
Then trace your name,
Right next to mine."

This is beautiful. Your work as such a natural flow and rhythm, that part way through I scrolled back up to see if this was intended to be lyrics! lol You are truly a talented individual.

Thank you for reading and reviewing and for all of your encouragement!
I can hear this being made into a beautiful song. I loved the word-play at the end, "If love's the ending,
You have in mind, Then trace your name, Right next to mine".

Although it's a longer poem, you said so much in so few words, especially in the stanza: "I'm on your edge. Don't make me fall. I found you once, And I lost it all".

I was getting emotional reading this, because the words seem to come to life in this piece; the emotion. Such an original poem!
