Not My Mother

Not My Mother

A Poem by Tamika Finley

When you're bullied before you're in middle school..
And you're afraid to leave females around your significant other before high school..
And they're always talking about you to their friends before the girls in school..
Trust issues are beginning to form before you've even began to trust a guy at school..
When if no one else in your life..
Is going to guide you to that "right path" in life..
And makes sure their best is attempted at showing you the best life..
Not forgetting to be there when you just don't know how to deal with life..
It should be the person who chose to bring you here to this life..
When you realize you can't even trust that person with your life..
No matter what happens they tell you to forgive..
Therefore you try your very best to forgive..
But when it's the person who should hesitate to take and always willing to give..
And even food on the table and clothes on your back, the roof over your head, they aren't willing to give..
You realize younger that this is more of a take-take world than a take-give..
When the one person you should feel comfortable with running to when your eyes are raining..
Is the one person making your eyes rain and..
But you must be the problem because all they do is complain..
As if I would rather be crying at 11 years old than playing..
Childhood living, loving, laughing..
And with that person you can't even live with, love, laugh with..
And yes we all make mistakes and we all must try to forgive and forget..
Try quickly to forgive, more for you than for them..
However, remember that the sooner you forget, the sooner they try you again..
Yeah, she's human just like I, but she's the human I looked up to..
Put all of my trust into..
Thought if I was in need I'd be the one she ran to..
This is when I learned not just a "first love" can keep you up at night, needing someone to talk to with no one to talk to.

There is rage, building and exhaling. The need for love, believing that her is the only security. Like a cloak that makes you invisible.
