From the Ash

From the Ash

A Poem by Mehar Anaokar

Abused for so long,
It was time for her to fight back
Her spirit had lost its song
And her soul had turned to black

Her thoughts were now polluted
Her body, burned and numb
Her limbs were convoluted
She was shocked, wordless dumb

Her valleys were now dry to the bone
Her skin had lost its bloom
She was carrying her weight all alone
And the days turned to night too soon

How long until she had enough?
How long until it ends?
Life shouldn't have to be this tough
When you're among those who say are your friends

Her dark circles and wrinkled skin
Were proof of her living hell
But she still had a fire within
And a hope that things would go well

Then she felt herself choke
Tears streamed from her eyes
The little light inside her broke
It was her time to hate, to despise

So Mother Earth stretched her arms to the sky
She set fire to her skin
Her eyes turned to smoke as she began
To drown the lost souls within

After 7 days and 7 nights
When the fires and storms were done
All known lives had been taken away
All, but one

Mother Earth still stood there shining
Her eyes returning to blue
The scars were still deep in her skin
But her heart was just as true

She raised new life from the ash
She gave love to all she bore
If needed, she would rise again
Just as she had done before
