The Puppeteer

The Puppeteer

A Poem by Mehar Anaokar

I was so attached, so blind
Oblivious to the truth
I dived into you headfirst
Excited in my youth

You held me up and I was a bird
You dropped me and I was wood
You twisted me and I turned
Giving you more than I could

You pulled my hands up to dance with you
You raised them to wipe out my tears
You held them apart so I felt the breeze
You pushed them away so I felt my fears

I was under your spell, enchanted
Blindfolded by my heart
It was years until I realised
Our masks are never who we are

And so I ripped at all the strings
Snapping them apart
Strings that held my limbs
And strings that held my heart

I loved this, a nice incite into ones eyes being opened to the truth about another, I especially liked the final verse.
