Overdone 12

Overdone 12

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

I hate it when the darkness takes over my soul,
And I can't seem to shake it off to play my role,
And it's a heavy burden that's taking it's toll.
It's a hovering mass that noone can console.
These feelings make me want to just curl up and hide,
And let myself drown in the tears that I have cried.
I'm running low on all the smiles I have lied,
And now emotion bubbles over from inside.
I would never want to pass this to anyone,
Or have someone get caught in this web I have spun,
Or have someone follow me down this path I run,
Just to choke on the sorrow that I've overdone.

Really enjoyed reading this poem! Speaks about the bundle of emotions that get tangled inside but we try our best to hide it from coming to the surface as we fear that if we let them out, the emotions would totally control our behavior. It is a constant struggle that one endures while living a life.

"I'm running low on all the smiles I have lied". -This line stood out the most for me.

Rhyming is amazing, I really got caught up in your beautiful rhymes (something I seriously lack) ;).

I just had a question about the title. What made you name it so. I am guessing it is a series of poems?

Best,
~KA~

12 is how many syllables are in each line. Thank you for your kind words.
