I Am Woman

I Am Woman

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

Eating when I am not hungry

Crying when I am not lonely

Frowning when I am not sad

Yelling when I am not mad

I am woman.

Is that why I roar,

Even when I don’t know what for?

I have done all 4 of those...I love this lady. Very thought provoking and so true for most of us. Emotions have a whole lot to do with all of this, and pms always played a part for me, though those days are behind me. Now I get to do the menopause thing. Very nicely done, Mejasha...

I like this - though would like more. I think that this is not quite the complete story of a woman you know, just describing a melodramatic moment. C'mon, we do more than roar, and I bet ya we ALWAYS know what its for - coz I do!
Nice read. Made me think. Thanks for sharing!

I love this little piece. It is short and sweet and says so much. I love how you ended it with a question. Sometimes I don't know what I'm roaring for either, but it just feels good to do it and get it out!

LOL. I like this. It is funny, even more so because it is so true of us women. XX

Oh, this is great! I am woman, hear me roar. Even when I don't know what it's for. I can completely sympathize with the thought.

YES! it's called estrogen LOL- In my twenties I thought highly of my motives, my action, and then reality set in. When I became an older woman I realized just how much of my so called 'noble acts' were really nothing more than hormone driven youth...how humbling..People don't realize that when in a hormonal fugue it masquerades as reality; many have died by this sword..a wise person comes bearing chocolate...you described it so well..thanks for another chuckle of recognition of myself in another's writing...
