Idealistic stiflings

Idealistic stiflings

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

Stunting the growth

of our spirituality

with the stiflings

of our religions.

Idealistic judgments

thrown outwardly

toward anything

but ourselves.

Our children

pushed closer

to hypocrisy

behind curtains

of curiosity.

Humiliated parents

with plastic faces

and pressed clothes

in wooden pews.

Damn good piece. You've pointed a flaw in ourselves and our societies. Check out my piece "Hypocrisy" when you get a chance.
