Bittersweet

Bittersweet

A Poem by Melanie Jane Boicourt Shanks

So blooms the flower waiting to be plucked.

The honey pollen surfaces, waiting to be sucked.

Leaves growing restless wanting to be groomed.

The lonely fruit ripening, wishing to be consumed.

Petals open wide,

Nothing to hide.

Roots grounded deep,

Wanting to keep

A hold of the surface.

Not change its purpose,

Just expand its horizon.

Not shed its old skin,

But grow and pursue.

To renew

Something.

Ripening.

Waiting.

Anticipating

A shower

Of power

To replenish.

Refinish.

Complete

Bittersweet.

Such rythmic cadence. Can I be a bit jealous? So easy to take in, so hard to create, get just the right word in it's proper place, else it collapses like a deck of cards. Stacking just the right verbs one after the other, just so, without nouns and adverbs and such to get in the way. At least until their turn properly comes. Wow. Always in rythm, all the while.
Exquisite.

A beautiful flow of words. I like the way you expressed the desire and life of the flower. Thank you for a excellent poem.
