I Am Me

I Am Me

A Poem by Melissa Kester
"

A poem to introduce myself

"
I am...
in love with the moon
inspired by the stars
involved with the oceans
engaged in the hearts
I am...
the girl of his dreams
the mother of a child
a soul of calm fortune
but inside I'm wild
I will...
see all I can
endure what I must
survive the hardest nights
savor the lust
I will...
live each day
sleep each night
win what I can
but not every fight
I can...
climb every mountain
swim every sea
explore every acre
save every tree
I can...
do anything I want
if only I try
even if my dream
is simply to fly

What an announcement of who you are shaped in such a shell. The standing belief of that which you can do leaps from your page. I enjoyed this work.

Thank you :)
Well done. This is very well written with a lovely flow. I particularly like the first stanza. A very nice introduction.

What a way to introduce yourself! It's strong, well-written- love how the stanzas are structured! Even the musicality is spot on (except in the last stanza: "anything" makes the line too long for the musicality to carry over. "What" would be better).

My only major critique is "but not every fight". Doesn't seem to fit the mood or the theme of the poem especially since in the following stanza you say "save every tree".....is that not a fight in itself? The whole poem paints a bold picture with an air of inner strength and valour, but then this line comes, and it just does't seem to fit that picture. Unless your intention was to say that you're wise enough to pick your fights carefully or whatnot, in which case it's the wording that's a little weird, for it doesn't quite say that.

On the whole, this is a good strong poem. Well done!

"and brave/confront/withstand/face every fight"?

....any of those would work well.
