Sailing

Sailing

A Poem by Melissa Kesead

The vessel smooth and narrow

sailing west upon the sea

masts tall and proud

commanding attention

Billowing like almond silk

the sails caress the wind

meeting it warmly

inviting it to stay

The barnacled hull strains

slicing through white-fanged waves

a school of dolphins follow

frolicking in the surf

Seagulls and pelicans dot the sea

bobbing like buoys, silent

then the boat docks, resting it's

weary bones, and they cry goodbye
