A rant

A rant

A Poem by Meraki

Why is it that the chaos
of the world isn't what brings us down,
but how we as a species react to it is?
 Animals seem to have adapted
much better than we have and
yet we still claim them savage beasts.
In assumption that everything must be civil.
When will we learn that in the attempt of civility
we will eventually lose sight of everything
 we have fought to preserve.
Our endurance.
 Our will.
 Our humanity.
Thus, the human race will die,
because we'll no longer be humans.
No. We will be aliens.
Pretending to thrive on a planet of concrete.
Because we have yet to learn one simple rule,
swimming against the current doesn't get you far.
And until change has been instilled,
until everyone can finally agree,
this is a path we may find ourselves on one day.

I was thinking and my mind drifted then I got mad and ranted to my friend in a text message. I just made it a poem, apparently sounded like one.

Despite the way this piece has been formatted, it bears resemblance to Prose Poetry, rather than traditional poetry. This explains why your rant, though essential prose, sounded "apparently" poetic.

In the piece, you raise many good points and make several insightful observations about human nature in its current and potentially futuristic state. As this was a text message, I feel it would be a bit unjustified to observe grammatical oddities; though I will make one. When constructing a sentence, ensure that (if conjoining fragments with a comma) that they all make cohesive sense in relation to one another. For example, the third line would benefit tremendously by adding the word "is" to the end of it. Just be careful with fragments, even in texts (and as far texts are concerned this one is incredibly poetic and insightful).

great poem! The meaning reminds me of a poem I wrote called civilisation. If this was truly just a rant via text then your speech is naturally poetic and that's an amazing gift!
