Maybe I’ll Hang on Too

Maybe I’ll Hang on Too

A Poem by Seshat Nidaba
"

for Anne

"

Under the cold blue sky I gaze

With so much creation all around me

I feel nearly monotonous or obsolete

A soul in a material playground, lost

In the ambition and greed of your ways

I must not protest, or protect myself too much

Since to be alive, is primarily a joyous thing

A sensation of immersion, a feeling of virtual incarnation

And to think after the long freeze

I can still inhabit my centre again!

I can still meditate while smiling

And love without possessing

To think that all of this is real and not-real

The leaves they cling to our bones

Memories like dew melt into the grass

But we were watchers on this fabulous journey

Martyrs who loved the world too much

And from the green stuff of spying spring

Our hearts’ burst immortal on the scene

And we lend delight and healing for coming days.

Very nice work.
Leaves lots of ingredient to ponder.

Beautiful words as always, Mr. Enigma... This one spoke a lot to me, told me a lot through the lines and even more off the page. I'm pondering now, which is a good thing.

You are most certainly enigmatic; perhaps the most perplexing parable I have discovered in a time. .. read more
Wonderful imagery, it made me think about how a poet might connect their souls from within to the beauty of the outside world, thus it would make a poem like this one last forever!

The verse has metaphysical expressions which i'm miffed to find. On one hand, the narrator seems to be a anthropomorphic tree, while on the other hand, the narrator is a pure human. The insignificance of the narrator has been remarkably elicited when he feels the numbness and pallor in the first few stanzas. It appears he is unable to live to the fullest every moment of his life, but, simply existing, hoping for and believing in something better to come along his way. So, while he is alive, with an overwhelming compassion, he intends to requite the world with happiness as much as he can.
It's a poignant part of life that at times, the own active world, as we perceive, suddenly stops when we feel belittled or are demoted. I am glad to find that the ending of the poem conciliates to gratitude and firmness for the greater good.

We become accustomed to life and it becomes simple.. but at the same time life is not simple its very complex. the whole poem is very thought provoking, and i really like the 5th stanza,

It's like you're taking an ordinary thing and stretching it out until you can see all the strands of creation that hold them together and the hands that wove them and smiling because you know you're the same. Nice one Pi :)

Thanks Ken, this is the sort of piece I want to read to myself when I'm 90.
