Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace

A Poem by MichelleClay

Her strong toned muscles flex as she surveys the land around her

Her long glossy hair, shines like a mirror in the sun

She is a beauty to behold, and many have tried to own her

But she is too wild, too complex and so she runs.

She runs as quickly as the wind, feeling the rough ground beneath

Her steamy breath shows her effort as she pants in the frosty first light.

She smiles a secret smile pushes her legs to go faster

Nature is freedom, it’s her delight

She slows to a gentler pace, for she has seen his face

He is always there at this time, waiting patiently to bring her in

Each day she steps a little closer, for he does not want her to change

He has loved her rough beauty since that very first day

He’ll be the only one to ride her; he is the only one she wants

For no matter how far or wide she runs, love cannot be escaped

And with rope now between his fingers she steps, gently ever so softly

Toward her amazing grace

Driven by the need to be free the spirited are only within the reach of capture when they are roped by patience, sincerity, empathy and indeed, grace.
I went about it all wrong once with a thoroughbred filly and found out how dangerous the wild spirit can be if trust is not in the equation. Once it's there and goes both ways a meeting of the heart begins, always recognizing that they are not the same, not even the same species in this case, and conquering is not allowed for either one. What can be found however, is the willingness to find common ground and a very wonderful kind of bond is formed that is oftentimes second to none.

Excellent words penned, genuine and meaningful...!

A beautiful poem. I like the way you used the words. "Amazing grace." The powerful description allowed the reader to fall into the story in the poem. Good to know joy and happiness. That is amazing grace. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

What a wondrous glimpse of that tender balance between freedom of self and love found in another... There is a brilliant wildness at work in the world, and within it such a divine grace that gives life a deeper meaning... You can feel that tension in your profound expressions here. Truly amazing!

Worthy of an Olympian competing, something about this had a lot of forward and humble tones to it.

Beautiful.

As I read this it immediately brought to mind a beautiful old song by the Byrds called Chestnut Mare. It's about a cowboy's dogged pursuit of a chestnut mare that has captured his fancy. He catches her and then loses her, but that doesn't lessen his desire for her.

Listen to it on You Tube, and you'll see what I mean.

A pretty poem...

Best part: Her strong toned muscles flex as she surveys the land around her

Her long glossy hair, shines like a mirror in the sun

She is a beauty to behold, and many have tried to own her

But she is too wild, too complex and so she runs.
