Silence of the Earth

Silence of the Earth

A Poem by Maddi
"

How humanity is destroying the earth.

"

Falling blossoms like ashy snow,

Singed, smoked; drifting gently.

The sky a pane of glass, ready to break

Under heavy, steel hammers.

Cities: Past, Present, Future.

Glower in the distance like glinting jems.

Cars excrete a sliver mist, a fine cloud

Of gauzy, velvety, greyness.

Numbing greyness.

Trees pulled from the ground, roots in the air.

Their souls unearthed.

A north-wind whispers among the deadened leaves-

Of landfills, mass graves for the waste of man.

Unlived forests long deserted.

The wind is silent for a minute.

The dust settles.

And the northerly wind is off again.

Spreading the news of the silent earth.

This topic is one that has been on my mind for quite some time and has made its way into my writing as well. I love how your tone throughout is mournful rather than filled with rage (which is how mine came out). I think it serves to get the message across a lot more the way you have gone about it. Great imagery too. I especially loved "Trees pulled from the ground, roots in the air./ Their souls unearthed." Wonderful phrasing! ☺ Well done.

I agree ☺
Very powerful poem. Too often we forget to care and love our earth and the results are disasterous. I wish all of humanity could live in harmony with nature instead of tearing it down. We watch it burn and put forth no efforts to squelch the fire. Thank you for sharing. < 3
