One Is Company

A Poem by Rochelle Tyler

I will try to enjoy this silence
(the empty spaces
which hold the air)
climbing up
and over used counter-tops
filling wooden cabinets.

It serves the most
lonesome of company.

And [After a while]
I am confident
that the room will grow quiet
and not agonize me like so,

but rather,
we'll find a use for one another
and learn to expect each other
at the end of every evening.

Yes
this shall be the case
(for I have already began to try)
and the silence has taken
an understanding
to my position.
