The Course

The Course

A Poem by Ana B.

I’m a pedestrian on this endless highway

Playing piano with today’s notes…

Yet no matter how simple, it’s so hard to obey

The rules of this world…got me tied up in knots.

Every now and then a racer is stopping by

Asking me if I want a ride to wherever I’m going

Yet instead of agreeing, I end up saying goodbye

Walking slowly down my road…steady…unknowing

A field of poppies, a little lamb is catching my eye

Luring me to rest my soul for a while…

And once the lamb will leave and poppies will die

I will move ahead with my journey…mile by mile

Passing streets and crossroads unfold ahead

Making a puzzle from a puzzle…

But if my course was long ago preset

Cannot afford to be distracted or dazzled…

M'am the best part about your poems is the beginning .... you just set the flow with it... although the whole is brilliant but always like the opening stanza of your poems... i havent read anyone who starts so brilliantly...

review for Ana B The Course

If only they had handed out books for us who find the rules and regulations of small talk and just getting by in the throng eh Ana?
Its so easy to get taken the wrong way - that seems to hurt the most because we never mean to do wrong - just misunderstood.
The lamb - innocence - unready for this world yet here we are - the poppies - the trenches of everyday life - where so many much tougher people seem to get mowed down but we are still here... how so??
Could we make it to the end of the course having managed to scrape our way thus far?
Your writing as always throws so many questions in the readers mind - engagement that keeps us coming back for more.
:))

seems you have set course and are not to be deterred despite the offers of a ride or the lure of that peaceful field you press on toward that distant golden horizon that you see in the shining distance, beautiful work Ana :)

Thank you very much Richard :) yup.....that is about me :D
Very deep, beautiful poem. We all are on a journey, passing by and then go on, further on. No on knows what's behind the corner. Maybe courses are preset, I don't know, but I surely want to discover it myself. Thank you for sharing. :) Rudi
