Tocsin

A Poem by Ana B.

Midnight conversations

At the edge of the sky…

Enmeshing fascinations

For my troubled, addled mind.

Amused is the ubiquity

How I accidentally survived this life

                        So far.

Cause only a true zealot of obliquity

Can relish in his crime

                                  Or justify a war…

And how I chase the stable instability

To make up for the missing link,

Eroding the body of the moribund sensibility

With every word and breath and blink.

And all along there was no missing link.

The Dark Knight with his soft lips

Awaits and whispers -‘’I’m closer than you think,

But still you get to choose your personal apocalypse’’.

This is the best thing I've ever read from you. It's put together almost perfectly, which is hard when using so many fancy words. It's fine line between needlessly pretentious and aptness.

Chopin is also my second favorite vodka.
I always fancied that we can get to die in the way which most appeals or most horrifies us (the same??).
But the reality is that we are all just stop being alive and in the world. So my great, great, great hypothetical uncle Egbert was probably killed by something he may have looked upon as an 'infernal contraption' - being crushed by a steam traction engine whilst stooping to pick up a daisy; whereas I will vaporise in a thermonuclear 'poof!' (which might explain my lifelong obsession with a nuclear world war). But in reality uncle Egbert just ceased to exist as will I.
Your skill at rhyming is matched only by your ability to make the reader sit up and take notice Ana. Great stuff!

Thank you :)
maybe we are not visionary enough to choose our own adventure when it comes to the apocalypse.
we are plenty alarmist however, especially poets.
This was a brilliant universal warning and also had a sense of vulnerable individual reflection. Nice!

Thank you for stopping by MP :)
I really liked the way this flowed, it seems to have a soothing rhythm to it and I loved these lines here:

And how I chase the stable instability
To make up for the missing link

We're all just searching for that "missing link" nicely done!

I am def' choosing an apocalypse with extra blood... The word choice.... A true zealot of unique ambiguity... Very well penned...
