Vows

These are renewal vows for my 25th Anniversary

When I learned that I couldn’t create 

A love of my own

Out of the ash of human conceit…

When I’d convinced myself 

Even God couldn’t love me,

I had to learn to show God love by loving me

And learn how to give love unselfishly

Then God sent a miraculous gift…

God sent the gift of you …

My Pashmaloo e kachal…

To show the Truth of love only God could create.

God's Word teaches from the very beginning

We were meant for each other always

Always and always to find myself in you

Soul to Soul… complete… made whole.

It’s the truth of our human experience

We must ever be seeking each other

Even from across the wide ocean

Pressed down and shaken together 

God blessed me with you,

And blessed me again with the miracle of our son.

I thank God for every breath I’ve taken,

Every breath I will ever take as your wife.

I thank you for all the respect…

All the love you’ve always shown me,

Your one and only Khonom mushé…

And again dedicate myself for only you 

I will honor you for all the time God gives me.

Always and always to find myself in you

Soul to Soul… complete… made whole.

Genesis 2: 14, 18, 22 & 24 “The Lord God took man and put him in the Garden… said ‘It is not good for the man to be alone…’ Then the Lord God made woman… and brought her to the man… For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the will become one flesh.”

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Mark 10:7-9 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become no flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

I Corinthians 13:4 & 7 - 8

Author's Note

This piece is evolving. We've been married 23 years (come December) and have been talking about a blow-out party and vow renewal for our 25th. I've been working on the vows for a while now. At the bottom are the scriptures that inspired some of the prose. I'd appreciate some critical input.

Thank you. I hope I may have 50 years and more with him. But, I shall treasure every day that we are blessed to share.

If you read "The Dance Plays On…" the two main characters, Sarvazad and Shariara, are loosely based on my husband and me.

Wow, the love for your husband shines through on this. I think this is great... I am not one to criticise vows BUT, I agree with KL. Beautiful though!

Thank you. And, I did add some more personal touches after KL's review. The lines "My Pashmaloo e kachal…" and "Your one and only Khonom mushé…" and the line about our son are among the personal touches I added.

This is really wonderful. To have such a love, would be incredible. As for critical input, I think it is really nice, but add something more personal from each of you. A little tidbit or anecdote from your life together.

Actually, this is my personal vows, and it is our experience: IDK what his vows will be. I spent a lot of years trying to make love happen "out the ash of human conceit" and found only heartache. You can make love happen. When I stopped trying to make it happen and just gave myself the space for it to happen, love… well… just happened. And when it did, it was -- and still is -- breathtaking. And, my husband is an immigrant "from across the wide ocean." Then, we tried for 12 long years to get pregnant, then were blessed with our son. Maybe I need to make that clearer? IDK. The people who will be at our Anniversary party and vow renewal know our story; I don't want to beat them over the head with it. Could you suggest a clearer phrasing, maybe?

I guess, to me, it sounds a little formal. I might want to make it sound a little less formal with an additional line or two. Wouldn't want to put words in your mouth, but everyone has a little thing -- the weird way they snore, or eat, or something, that is endearing to the one they love.

Well, yeah. But that stuff is in Farsi. LOL. I guess I could incorporate those couple of lines in Farsi. That would be very personal since my husband and my son are the only ones who'd understand it. Like, I call him "Pashmaloo e kachal," which means basically, fuzzy bald dude! He calls me "Khonom mushé" which means Mrs. Mouse and is really a humorous contradiction of my personality.
