Painted Pictures Hung Upon the Wall

Painted Pictures Hung Upon the Wall

A Poem by MomzillaNC

Painted pictures hung upon the wall…

Frozen moments stilled upon the canvas…

Rendered so to hold us enthralled.

From a long ago fading past,

Cracking pigments of depth and richness…

In each ephemeral face a story unfolds

From eyes that follow you where ‘ere you pass…

Eyes look back… looking into the soul…

From painted pictures hung upon the wall.

Like doorways rendered to another place and time…

Do their stories play out when we’re not looking

At painted pictures hung upon the wall?

A brief moment
Forever frozen
In time.

By the brush strokes
Of an artist
Long since
Moved on.

Unlike
A photograph
The subject's soul
Is free
To roam the room.

Partaking
In our lives
By our emotional response.

As awe is
Reflected back
Through our eyes
And body language.

Conveying
A thousand and one things
Simultaneously
About our inner self
To the painting.

And yet
A sense of incompleteness
Exists
In wanting more
But unable to get it.

As the painting
Slowly fades away
In our memories.

Very good, Momzilla, indeed this is also the same projection you make in your poem. Glad you pointed me on that. I see you write stories too, will look into that too if I have a bit spare time. :) Rudi

I've often wished that pictures could be like those in the Harry Potter films :P I really enjoyed reading this poem. There was a great tale in here and an emotional impact as well. Your words were beautiful and added more depth with each line. Thank you for sharing. Very well done.

Thank you. I've always imagined life carrying on in the pictures when we're not looking.

Dear MomzillaNC,

Very nice. Lots of beautiful lines here. "Like doorways rendered to another place and time…" is a particular favorite, but there are several others as well. Yes, we see the paintings, but sometimes it seems they watch us as well, perhaps with more wisdom.

Best regards,

Rick

You're welcome.
Extremely affecting poetry, you painted in darkly shades of gray, felt this one to my core.
