My Timorous Wings

My Timorous Wings

A Poem by MomzillaNC

Faltering in self-doubt, I fell
and forgot that I had wings
Without joy, I was earthbound
and could not see the sky
Then you came into my life
You raised my eyes once more
back to the forgotten sky
In your breaking through the storm smile
Embraced by the love in your ebony eyes
from your heart, reminded me I could fly
You dusted off my timorous wings
You gave me space to spread my wings
with whispered kisses on your breath
the wind beneath my wide wings spread
And, when my strength is not enough
with your strong arms enfolding me
You spread your own wide wings
That we might fly unfaltering in tandem

pretty romantic Ms. Momzilla ...can't help but think of the song sung by Bette Midler ...it was my wife's favorite movie .. no complications in your poem .. straight forward yet builds the image ... i like its universal stance allowing me to interpret this in other ways .. God lifting and sustaining me ... or a solid friend ... or of course one's special love ... leaning on someone or something else besides our own strength seems an unavoidable life lesson ... going to be thinking about it today .,.. ;)

oh my yes...isn't that a Twilight Zone coincidence...
you wrote the response poem, before i wrote the initial one...
nothing like flying in tandem...
together there is such strength...
love can do that.

It really is quite a "Twilight Zone coincidence." Great turn of phrase there. Thanks.
I really love this one. It is strong and romantic. At once I wonder but then think that the oft repeated word wings has a certain purpose and rhythm to it. Nicely done.

Thank you. And, yes, there is a purpose to repeating “wings” in the poem. We are our own angels .. read more

Thank you. And, yes, love lifts the heaviest of hearts and eases the greatest of burdens.
