Empty Space on an Autumn Day

Empty Space on an Autumn Day

A Poem by Morteica

We are cold

bones with the marrow licked clean

by the sandpaper tongue of a tom cat     we

 crunch

like leaves underfoot

in autumn      we played in the woods

you were young

when I held out my hand

for you                        there were no demons

back then        your hand came easy

to me

the way you hold out

your thumb and

flip

the pages at your waist

makes you a wizard    you make

words glow     your voice soothes

the tension in my temples and I drift

because

your world is more beautiful than mine

and I desperately want

to know it so

I can steal it    No

hold it with me

love

you know

it’s not so cold

beneath the leaves

Loved your form, how you place your words on the page for the reader
to pick up, like stones on a path. A poem to be felt and read, out loud.
