IF ONLY IT WERE YESTERDAY

IF ONLY IT WERE YESTERDAY

A Poem by Amanda Mae MacInnis

I LOOK BACK AND FIND MYSELF LONGING
FOR THE DAYS THAT HAD PASSED
FOR THE MOONLIT SKIES I WISHED
WOULD ALWAYS LAST

IF ONLY IT WERE YESTERDAY
I'D TURN THE CLOCK HANDS BACK
I'D MAKE SURE IT WAS LOVE
THAT NOBODY LACKED

I'D WATCH THE STARS DANCE
AND FROLICH ON THE LAKE
WHILE I STARE ACROSS THE LAWN
WHICH EARLIER WAS A CHORE TO RAKE

I'D HEAR THE WHISPER
OF THE BREEZE THROUGH MY HAIR
APPOLOGIZE FOR THE CHILDREN
I COULD NOT BARE

BUT I WOULD SEE THE SETTING SUN
AND THE GIFTS IN LIFE THAT I HAD WON
I UNDERSTAND AND AM ABLE TO SEE
NOBODY LIVES LIFE AS IT'S MEANT TO BE

EVERYONE HAS TAKEN WRONG TURNS IN LIFE
IT'S JUST UP TO US TO MAKE THEM RIGHT
I WISH I COULD HAVE ENJOYED IT MORE
BUT YOU NEVER DO KNOW WHAT'S IN STORE

THERE'S NOTHING MORE I CAN DO ON MY OWN
LAID TO REST UNDER THIS MARBLE STONE
