I Made You Happy In The Saddest Of Ways

I Made You Happy In The Saddest Of Ways

A Poem by Ally Monique
"

If only I had stopped the inevitable

"
I've been here before, 10:37,
restless with my head between my knees.
If only,10:37,
had come a minute earlier.

That one minute held 60 seconds
and 60 chances,
to take 10:37 back.

Somewhere in those 60 seconds,
10:37 gave you a faithless kiss,
under a sky of dying stars.

10:37 marked my end,
and your begging.

This is really good. Most people write about what's it's like to not be loved, and forget about the other point of view.

It's sad when you want so badly to love someone, and you know they'd be perfect and give you everything you want if you did. But without love, none of that would matter anyway.

Love how you kept it short and sweet. But not necessarily simple. Thank you for sharing.

The regret just pours out of this piece. You've done an exceptional job of capturing the emotions here, especially with the repetition of 10:37 and other similar phrases that make the poem sound like it's an obsessive, regretful thought in the speaker's mind. In such few words you've given life to the tension that exists in all of us with the harsh reality that we can never go back and redo a moment. That was powerful, Ally. Great job, my friend :)

By the way, I was looking at your page, hoping you had new material posted. You're an awesome writer and I really hope you're still using this site.

I can really relate to this piece and I have asked myself the same question. This was beautifully heartbreaking and truthful. Very well written

Good poem, sad. The stanza
"That one minute held 60 seconds
and 60 chances,
to take 10:37 back."
was an amazing one, my favourite. Great write, emotion-filled.
