Upside-Down Purple Trees

Upside-Down Purple Trees

A Poem by Ally Monique
"

I used to be afraid of Thunder and Lightning, now I love it :P

"
the Wind,
soft and quiet as a whistle,
begins to bury itself in the Branches of
worn maple wood trees-
While I,
freckled with thoughts so whimsical,
clench the water-stained window.

the Sky,
smudged with smoke and heather paint,
births a lingering sigh of one-hundred
upside-down purple trees-
that, like star crossed lovers,
longs to brush
its earthly reflection.

and,
the Storm,
both tempting and obscure,
carefully treads down a path,
I have yet to walk.

A colourful, imaginative piece of introspection, with a bit of melancholy...mind you, I'll find melancholy in anything haha...some very cool observations here, especially regarding the storm, both tempting and obscure...I really enjoyed this one, well done :)

Loving this piece and your writing. I will definitely be looking at a few others you have written after I am through with this one. I love the mutiple metaphors you have interacting in this piece and the vivid imagery throughout. It has a very peaceful, in my opinion, tone. Very calming. The image I get from reading this poem is of a watercolor painting, or rather its as if I can see the world as a moving watercolor, but slowly being doused in more and more water till all fades to grey. I'll have to write a poem about that now... Back on track! My one piece of advice would be to eliminate "star crossed lovers"... in a piece so beautiful and unique as this.. it really takes a hard hit when you use a cliche like that. Other than that, it is a lovely piece.

The imagery was beautiful and I especially love the way you described lightning as upside down trees.

Thank you willweb :) I am grateful for the review!
i see this as a wonderful allegory...of life to the storm, and the path we take or haven't quite yet, but will..."freckled with thoughts so whimsical" is such a nice line.

i am quite engaged by your wording.

Whimsical and enticing...love the title, it drew me in initially, the abstractness and simplicity of your poetry kept me intrigued. Stunning read Ally.

My favorite stanza's lines here.
