Counting Crows and November Snows

Counting Crows and November Snows

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Counting Crows and November Snows

There is a void

that punctuates my tears

A parade of years

are all that is left me,

to counting crows

and November snows.

This made me think of a couple that had spent so many years together and have it abruptly ended. It reminded me of my grandfather after my grandmother passed. He lived on for a several years, but was never the same. This is well use of a small amount of words. Nice job.

Kelly,
One hates to use the word, 'nice,' but it is! I, for some reason, think of the term, "a hop, skip, and a jump." That's what these 3 stanzas seem to imply to me. Sorry . . . can't explain.

such a sense of loss here.
innocence, love, youth?
maybe all of the above.
That's what I love, it feels so heavy and can relate in however way it calls to us

Happy friday, my darlin friend! Ty!
Such deep sadness in this piece. November is that kind of month. At least, in the snowy part of the world. I can feel the nights get colder, and something makes me sad about that ...

There is definitely a grace to your poetic style. Getting feelings across in a few short lines is challenging. You do it so well. Have a Merry Christmas Kelly! CD

Good to see you, my west coast friend...thank you!
When summer dies, a piece of us dies with it. And all we can do is count the crows and the snows until it all passes. You perfectly captured the feeling!

Interesting use of 'counting crows.' Our apartment house abuts a property with nothing on it, just a big yard. The only birds left that haven't headed for winter homes is the crow...and to see them in this big empty yard, the grass turning brown, gasps a sense of desolation and emptiness. Then to take into account the beginning, with your wistful thinking of years gone by, a lost love perhaps(?) uses that sense of desolation to punctuate THAT feeling too. Beautifully written, Kelly. This is going into my library favorites, thank you for that! take care...dan
