Listen to the Warm

Listen to the Warm

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

Listen to the Warm

I listen to the warm.

It centers me and makes me whole.
It reminds me
that I was someone’s daughter,

that someday

I’ll become an author of a book,
the one that stirs within my consciousness

whenever I listen to the warm.

Whenever I find myself

caught in the quiet of a rain soaked day,
lonely for places I’ll never go

…like Schenectady, or Paris.

Author's Note

Kelly Scheppers
I took a quote from this poem and titled it, “In the Quiet”, which I posted in March of last year. And on another note, one of my favorite poets, Rod McKuen, titled a book of poetry by the very same title...just in case you took notice!

I love the personification of the warm. I love the idea of listening to the warm and reflecting.

Great poem! I love how it says that the warm centers you and makes you whole. Awesome picture, by the way.

...makes you wish you could curl right up in there, doesn't it? Thank you so much for your review!
I like to do crosswords in bed on rainy days...but writing would be good too!! listening to the rain can cleanse the soul leaving you free to write what you truly feel.

Great place to write and daydream :-) In the company of friends...
Much needed by my eyes and heart. You can go to Paris just don't drive. In the space of a whistle I am joined with you in the warm.

Love,
Al

Your surprise is coming!
dear Kelly... I was introduced to the poetry of
Rod McKuen in my twenties. I was introduced to your
poetry a half a century later. Your poem sums up my
present feelings about life... "Listen to the warm".
"caught in the quiet of a rain soaked day, lonely for
places I'll never go", weeping for lost love...
discovering the comfort of renewed love...
Truly you are the quintessential poet of our time.
as ever, Pat
