So That We May Never Grow Old

So That We May Never Grow Old

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

So That We May Never Grow Old

The realm of innocence

lies within

the heart and mind of a child

We must foster

their guileless nature,

encourage their boundless spirit

so that we

may never grow old.

I have been addicted to that song by Nathaniel Ratliff and the Night Sweats, "Need Never Get Old". I must be feeling my age lately, and resisting it without grace! Children are so innocent and open, not soured by the passing of time. I love this, as being with young people keeps you that way!

I believe that too, Jenn. Thank you so much...it was great seeing you!
never grow old and prejudiced, judgmental or cynical...

kids are great in their innocence and honesty and love for everyone.

i could be Forest and you could be Jenny...like peas and carrots...:))))
We must always behave like little children, forgive easily, forget easily and move on. We should also love freely without fear and that way we never grow old as you have put it clearly. I have definitely enjoyed reading this

When it comes to you Kelly anything will do.
In this day and age, the words you share here are truer than ever. Kudos for a poem that deserves more attention.

If that innocence and optimism could be bottled, think of the kind of world it would be! As parents we can shape their future -- OUR future. Kelly, you always had the gift to make a powerful statement using very few words. Wonderful.

There is nothing more wonderful than a child's laughter and innocent play. We should pay attention more often.

We're so busy teaching them that we don't realize what we can learn from them! Thank you, Kara!
If we could just hang on to that innocence and learn to live through the 'boundless' spirit of a child I believe we would enjoy quite a remarkable life - love this Kelly :)

Such an awesome perspective, Carolynn, thank you!
I have no children but having lived more than half my life already (while refusing to grow old), I can safely say that this is great advice.

I appreciate that, WittyWonka, thank you. And just for the record, I refuse to grow old, too!
I know this in each wild eye expression, each toothy grin, or awed look from my sweet grandbaby! This is in perfect expression! I would expect nothing less from a Queen with her thoughts and a pen:) my sister of words.
