Someday she'll fly

Someday she'll fly

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

The fervor of

his kisses

once paralleled

the embers of a flame,

an ineffable passion.

Now they bear

a semblance to
the pecks of a bird,

barely feeding

to survive

someday

she’ll fly.

Very well portrayed. It is such a shame when infatuation turns into just another duty to attend to.

...thank you so much, Hannah. I love your name!
A couple in our area recently celebrated 72 years of marriage, no doubt his kisses may now be the pecks of a bird, but glowing embers produce the tastiest meal. ;P Well done, Kelly

Wow, 73 years...that's quite an accomplishment! Thank you, Ted!
The losses counted in time of a love when it becomes association by rote. This is one of the true tragedies of life. I love this poem. It bears witness to this loss of love but it is beautiful in its own right.

...lol, that's good one!!
it is sad indeed when love turns to habit, from passion to simple embers... this doesn't have to happen, though it does far too often I think... one of the things that always got to me was seeing a couple sitting in a restaurant and not speaking or even looking at each other as though words have left them... I know you don't always have to speak, but usually the silence comes with a touch, a look, a smile or some other form of affection...

anyway, I think your poem is nicely done Kelly, and leaving me empty even if she does "fly someday"....

Thank you most kindly, Divya!
sailors take warning ...well done Legs! i was lulled in love and suddenly the turn of a man that takes too much for granted and has forgotten the face of his fathers ... i hope he comes to his senses .. takes the day off and stays home to play and pamper ... but you leave me on the ledge not knowing .. what a fine little poem that reads as a novel

This is more like hanging on to the idea of love than to finally let it go. An interesting metaphor you've used here which I found quite fascinating!
I think real love strengthens over time..

Ah how 'love' cools from the heady days of early romance until it withers on the vine of acquiescence. Nicely portrayed in another flowing verse Kelly!
