A Girl Named Norma Jeane

A Girl Named Norma Jeane

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

A Girl Named Norma Jeane

“Death only claimed the breath of you…”

Her allure has never waned.

It is written within the revelations of poets,

categorized upon the bookshelves at Barnes & Noble.

Immortalized by “The Candle in the Wind”.

It languishes high in the hills of California,

in the summering youth of adolescent boys

and in gentleman

who still prefer blondes.

It is the antithesis of Norma Jeane,

a girl who became a Hollywood icon.

Who sipped champagne

with all the President’s men.

Who wore pearls with pencil skirts

and birthday suits.

…and only Chanel #5 to bed.

Love this Kelly, especially the bit about Chanel #5. Many years ago I also wore that in bed, naked. Maybe because I was so intrigued by her. I can still remember the day she died as if it was yesterday. Iconic, she will be remembered for years. Great read.

I have written quite a few pieces about her. Such a fan! Thank you, Christine!

Which ones. I can take a look.
There is something that is mystifying about her, timeless even. Even know, she is arguably a pillar of American beauty. A fitting tribute!

A pillar of American beauty, indeed! How unconventional to say, Travis. Thank you.

Marilyn "speaks" to my muse often. I feel blessed by it. Thank you for reading and making me smile.. read more
Kelly - you have expressed the thoughts of many who lived to see and enjoy the talent she portrayed. Not many understood her innocence and let it get lost in the sexiness role she played. Thank you for the reminder.

Take care - Dave

Like candle in the wind, I too wish I could have known her. She'll be forever immortalized as a young beautiful woman who stood out from the others. Not just for her looks, but her innocence.

Like this Kelly.

A true enigma. Many thanks, Paul! So glad you enjoyed it.
Saw her first as a boy and never realized her greatness until a mature man when I was dazed in wonder

Regards,

Al

I think she'd be thrilled to know that, Al!
Still an icon. I was watching her last film The Misfits the other day. It was something more than acting.
Well written.

Indeed, I believe it was one of her best. Thank you, Ken!
a goddess indeed and destined to be immortalised, and there is always an aura when one dies in her prime immortalised by time in her youth, as she and many others, be it man like elvis or other beautiful actresses may not have had the same appeal and or a lesser appeal if they had lived to their nineties and you see an idol old and aged. a nice write kelly.

We'll never know what happened that night. Never. I think that's the real tragedy! Thank you, And.. read more
Kelly, you have written of Marilyn Monroe in the past and each time you do, I am amazed at the adoration you have for her. You had to be a baby when she passed on yet you have elevated her to a pedestal...and it is so lovely! Always a pleasure. LydI**
