Pretzel Logic

Pretzel Logic

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...Steely Dan, Johnny Walker and Monopoly!

"

Pretzel Logic

He always won

at Monopoly

flicking ashes

from a filtered cigarette

collecting various railroads

and green houses

all in a zealous exchange
for red hotels.

I was the appointed banker

keeping my interest

on him

and Johnny Walker,

indulging my coquettish wiles

into the epoch of loquacious conversation

and the pretzel logic

of Steely Dan.

Love it.. seen from an innocent bystander watching the two of you bid and play, wait and wonder. You really do know how to write a scene beautifull, Kell, me darlin' fun and fascination all the way.. We ised to love it when us lot, seven of us, were young. but it was barred, banned and all by our parents come Christmas Day when we had to talk to each other and the like. Laughing now, of course. Your weave of words have given a new slant to the game with Pretzels acccompanied by boozy breaths and baited hope for one of the best to be yours, captured !

This reminds me of a night approximately 60+ years ago, playing an all night game of strip poker with one of my buds 'hot looking' sisters!!
Even tho' I had to continually mortgage her extra clothing, it was a night I have never forgotten
Which also brings to mind that I don't ever recall listening to Steely Dan
I'll have to get 'Hey Google" to rectify that issue

You do? Well, that's music to my ears, Andrew. Thanks so much! (pardon the pun!) ; )
Keep Reelin' in the Years, dear...we play scrabble in this house. I'm too old for Johnny and too young for a walker...but not by much. ;) I enjoyed the read! It's my pleasure to give your writing 100% and my duty to give mine the same. Cheers. Maybe a little 8 year old Bacardi Gold and Coke. F.

I can see it, an evening around the game table, cigarettes, booze, a little flirting and Steely Dan...sounds about right to me. I remember those days and how much fun it all used to be. Side note, knowing they were primarily a studio band, I never thought I would get to see Steely Dan live but I did many years later and the show was amazing. Michael Mcdonald opened.

I love this poem! It makes me think of my college days and we played backgammon and drank White Russians and Long Island Ice Teas. The last four lines are perfect! “Coquettish wiles” and lots of conversation! Yep, that happened and you caught it. David smoked occasionally and was so good looking! Thanks for taking me back on a journey through the early 1980s!

I adore this write! (I was the appointed banker keeping my interest on him and John

of the neighborhood kids would gather at my house to play Monopoly...and I was the banker. Ah....happy memories of simpler times. ~Sharon
