The Woods

The Woods

A Poem by Kate

The Woods

Trees shedding their leaves
Like snakes their flaky skins
Are in the woods of autumn
Where Frankenstein's monster
Stowed away in human's shelter
Learnt the alphabet by heart
Science and art
Planted seeds of love
Despite being himself despised
For being a disfigured, ghastly sight

Where Heathcliff's mind
Went bonkers and grew wild
For a wall of stratification
Tapered like a triangle on top
Thwarted a wedlock
Tightened by the love knot
And sealed the marriage
With upper class snort

Where lovers got swindled
By the medieval pen
Of stinking Shakespeare William
Where tragedies and comedies
Have taken place
Since the medieval age
As if chops of logs
Twigs and bush
Shrubbery and mushrooms
As if moss and trunks
Amongst rabbits' frenzy
And squirrels shredding nuts
Could give a stroke of genius
To a coterie of ladies and
Gentlemen prolific in
Writing about life
