The Nightmare

The Nightmare

A Poem by Elaina Aleksandra
"

This is a poem that I plan to base one of my upcoming books off of. It is very dark and graphic.

"
As the day comes to its close
She prepares her head for a good night of sleep
Her mind thinking pleasant dreams it shall reap
She looks at her bed
How inviting the soft sheets and pillows are
But there is one thing that she does not see
Above her bed hovers a being not of Heaven nor of this Earth
But he is of Hell

As she lays her head to rest on her soft, inviting pillows
"Pleasant dreams," says this Hellish being,
"These thou shall not receive this night."
"For I shall create for you a dream like none other."
"You shall not be free nor escape,"
"So prepare thyself for endless sleep."
At those words, her eyes, they shut.

The great hand of the Hellish creature then opened wide
Pointing its nail-like finger, it pierced through the girls skull and into her mind inside.
It stirred her thoughts to cause confusion and delusion.

The girl's mind began to create her dream,
but what she thinks will make her smile will actually make her scream.
Her mind began to open its eyes
But all that it sees is darkness
Her inner mind searches and searches
"Where is the light?" she asks herself,
"For there is none to be found."
Suddenly the darkness began to lighten as did her heart for a moment

A bed became visible to her mind's eye
Upon the body lay a body deep within sleep,
She approached the body planning to wake it
But as she drew closer a sudden fear fell upon her,
Slowing her pace, the vision became clearer,
And with each step she took the grip of fear grew stronger.

Reaching the sight, she looked closer,
But what she saw was not a body in sleep
But one whom Death stole its life to keep.
The body's eyes were wide open with an empty stare.
Then suddenly it melted away with a screech.

The skin, the veins with blood dripping,
Followed by the bones disintegrating,
This horrific sight caused the girl to scream,
And with her scream she awoke.

She glanced around her room to see if she had returned to reality,
Not seeing the spirit hovering over her laughing,
"That's right young girl, quiver at my power."
"I will devour your soul this night."
She lay her head back down not hearing the Hellish voice,

Breathing a sigh, she realized it was but a dream,
And closed her eyes yet again
Believing that she will not again scream.

Again this demon from Hell Stretched out both its hands,
And with all ten of its needle-like fingers,
Dug deeper into her mind this time.

Instead of seeing darkness
This time she saw light, but just light.
There were no walls, just white light.
Just white light except for a single mirror.

The same fear that had gripped her previously,
Had come back to haunt her but stronger.
As she looked into the mirror, herself was represented.
The mirror seemed to beckon her forward,
So therefore she walked toward.

As she looked upon herself, she was lightened by seeing her own face,
But upon her arm she felt something cold and wet.
When she looked down horror her eyes met.
The substance red in color
Was obviously her own blood.

Then as she began to panic, fingers like needles drifted down her arms.
And with a searing pain, she saw the blood drip, drip, drip.
Voices trailed through her mind
Telling her to do things that would make a person shiver and quiver.
"Wake up!" she screamed.
And at that moment her room reappeared.

Her heart pounded like horses,
Her breathing staggered,
Then she looked down noticing her pillow,
It was splattered with red now,
Her heart pounded faster and faster.
As she glanced down at her arms they were covered in blood.

Yet the dream had ended,
But just as her arms were bleeding,
The dream had bled into reality.

The spirit started to speak to her,
But this time she heard his horrific voice loud and clear.

"I told you, little girl."
"You will never escape nor be free of this nightmare."
"End it now, so that you can nightmarish nights be spared"

And at those words, she took in her hand a mirror,
Throwing it to the ground, it broke into pieces.
She picked up a shard,
And dragged it across her wrists,
And she bled out until her last breath was upon her lips.

Smiling the being of Hell called out with a loud voice,
"I told her she would never be free nor escape, and this I meant."
"She will pay for her sins, Oh, so well!"
"For all eternity she shall burn in Hell"
